well, being born in Shinjuku, the hottest and one of the center of Tokyo, it is kind of embarrassing to buy a guide book of Tokyo... and... i put up some courage 2 days ago, and finally.... BOUGHT IT! Tokyo is a cool place, it's changing constantly, and trends come and go every season, so the stores appear and disappear... it was hard to catch up with the highest modern culture of the world lately.
I bought the guide book to take Arthur to places. he's a friend of Daniel who's studying abroad in Osaka, and Andrea. All are seniors. I asked him a couple of times what and where he wants to see, but he didn't really help me with that... I knew I had to take him around... and if I do, i don't wanna waste his time showing something that doesnt attract him. So, im taking him to Akihabara to look at some beautiful high tech toys... where i havent really been before.
a good resource to rediscover tokyo is the free metropolis magazine. you can get to it online at http://metropolis.japantoday.com/default.asp. the website also lists distribution points where you can pick up a printed version.
a cool place i remember (it's been a few years) is this a bar in shibuya called sugar high. nice atmosphere (meaning not roppongi-like). live dj every night. last i remembered, it was mostly house and drum and bass music. small dance area. you can find it's location in the metropolis magazine or by doing a google search on something like "sugar high shibuya".
have fun revisitng tokyo.
