VLC media player is a multimedia player for various audio and video formats
MPEG, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and network
protocols. It can also save its input to a file or send it through the network
to other applications.

VLC is a popular Open Source application that was ported to Mac OS X. It has
support for various audio and video formats that the QuickTime player does
not handle (DivX, Xvid, vorbis, ogm, ...), and can play DVDs on drives not
supported by Apple's DVD Player. It supports multiple channels audio output,
video output to an external screen, and video filters such as deinterlacers. It
also supports a very wide range of streaming protocols (HTTP, FTP, MMS, ...)
and features (multicast, IPv6).
